When our two boys were little, we stayed home to watch the ball drop in Times Square and whisked them to bed by 9:15 pm (we live in the West Coast). Our now teen and tween expect a more exhilarating New Year’s Eve and I can’t agree more, especially this year.
We plan to celebrate the end of 2021 and usher in 2022 with more pizazz! For that, we’ll need an assortment of festive yet easy recipes that everyone, including the kids, can enjoy. I'm going to set out easy finger foods, fun dips and platters, and fizzy family-friendly drinks.
For dessert, I’ll make a variety of cookies and candies for us all to munch on throughout the evening, so we can ring in the new year with full hearts and bellies.
Hope you find a recipe that your whole family will enjoy. Happy New Year!
Cranberry Limeade
This five-ingredient drink will delight guests of all ages. Simple syrup sweetens the freshly squeezed lime juice and unsweetened cranberry juice. To that, just add water and ice. Want a bubbly concoction? Feel free to use club soda instead of water.

Winter Spiced Orange Mocktail
Sour oranges called Seville oranges make their appearance for a short time in the winter. If you can find some, it’s worth buying them for this mocktail. Otherwise, I’ve used navel oranges with an extra drop or two of orange bitters with no problem at all.

Holiday Punch
It’s a two-for-one recipe! One is for adults with bourbon and hot cider. The other for kids, without. I suggest making both.

Whipped Feta with Figs, Pistachio, and Honey
This dip has it all: It’s salty, briny, creamy, sweet, crunchy, and looks good to boot. Make double the fig-pistachio-honey topping since I suspect folks will go back for one more dip of just that.

Slow Cooker Spinach Feta Dip
Every party needs a warm and cheesy dip. This one is made in a slow cooker with spinach, cream cheese, sour cream, feta, and garlic. If you don’t love feta cheese, try Monterey jack cheese plus a little more salt. Serve with crackers and pita chips.

Sausage Rolls
This is an upscale version of pigs in a blanket. It uses fresh sausages and rolls them in strips of pizza dough. I’d enlist the help of guests (ehem, the kids!) as part of the festivities. You could also use chicken or vegan sausages instead of pork.

These flavor-packed handheld treats can be as spicy as you'd like. Removing the seeds and white veins inside the jalapeños make them less spicy.

Curried Chicken Salad With Endive
It’s not often that a salad is considered finger food, but these little endive boats require zero utensils. Each leaf is filled with a curried chicken salad and topped with toasted almonds. Poach the chicken the day before and assemble them right before the party.
